Floriculture or horticulture is the science of producing beautiful flowers and plants. Generally, a garden refers to a flower garden. Horticulture is divided into two main categories: ornamental and commercial gardening. Ornamental gardens are further divided into two types: family gardens and institutional gardens. The family garden has many flowering plants including seasonal flowers and shrubs. Institutional gardens, on the other hand, are mainly organized by shrubs and ornamental trees.
Flowers are a wonderful way to bring emotional happiness. They can fulfill the human heart’s desire for beauty and nourishment. Flowers are a source of both beauty and fragrance, their beauty can capture the eye while their enchanting aroma can entice the nose. Flowers are the best way to satisfy two of the five human senses: sight and smell.
Choosing Plants: Choose plant species that produce beautiful flowers and are suitable for your climate and soil type. Some popular choices include cherry blossoms, magnolias, dogwoods, and jacarandas.
Choosing the right location: Flowering plants generally need full sunlight to bloom profusely. Choose a spot in the garden or yard that gets plenty of sunlight.
Soil Preparation: Soil should be tested to determine pH level and nutrient content. Optimum soil should be prepared for the selected plant species. Applying organic matter like compost improves soil structure and fertility.
Planting: Plant species-specific planting instructions should be followed. Generally, a tub or pot should be taken according to the plant. Could you plant the sapling in the middle of the soil in the tub and fill it with soil? The tub should be filled with water so that water reaches the seedlings.
Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
Fertilization: Regular application of organic and mixed fertilizers is required for plant growth. Different types of fertilizers should be given so that the plant can flower properly.
Pruning: Tree structure, and dead or diseased branches should be removed. Regular pruning is important for healthy growth and abundant blooms. Pruning is usually done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
Pest and disease management: Monitor your plants for signs of pests or diseases such as aphids, caterpillars, or fungal infections. Appropriate insecticides or fungicides should be used accordingly.
Mulching: Apply a layer of various types of sawdust, and coconut husk around the base of the plant to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
